Getting on Facebook Live

getting on facebook live

Have you been putting off getting on Facebook Live?  I have.  For weeks.

It seemed like it would be rather intimidating.

I mean, I’ve been making videos since October 2015 and I feel comfortable making them.  But Facebook Live is a whole different kettle of fish…

When I make regular videos I can:

  • do as many takes as I need
  • edit to my heart’s content (cut bits out)
  • take as many breaks as I want
  • just deal with myself and no one else

But when I do Facebook Live videos I need to:

  • keep talking and not have long pauses (think on my feet)
  • take into consideration that people are joining me at different times (keep them informed of the topic)
  • interact with people who join me live (ask and answer questions)
  • be selective about which comments to respond to
  • not keep interrupting my train of thought and speech as I welcome and respond to people
  • think about when I’m going to broadcast and let everyone know (consider different time zones)
  • be consistent about broadcasting, whether I feel like it or not

Hmm, that’s quite a lot to think about…

I’ve done two Facebook Lives so far and it feels like having your own TV show with an interactive studio audience.  Except you don’t really know how most of your audience is responding.

But, here’s the thing…  Although there’s so much to think about, which may seem scary, it’s actually a lot of fun!

Both times, after I finished broadcasting, I felt exhilarated and excited to get back on again.  Go figure.

I had put off doing it for weeks because I felt intimidated by everything that could possibly go wrong and yet, when I finally DID do it, I loved it and couldn’t wait to do it again.

I think it’s because, no matter how you feel when you start, you get all this positive energy from the people who join you and, consequently, the whole LIVE aspect makes you feel so ALIVE.

So don’t let all the concerns put you off.  Why not give it a go and see how you find it?
